Verifying an address in PitneyShip, PitneyShip Pro, or PitneyShip Enterprise

When you create a shipping label, the recipient address is verified against the USPS address database. Some carriers or country destinations may require you to enter a verified address in order to print a label.

Address Verification Settings

You can choose whether your addresses are automatically corrected during verification, or if you are prompted to review each one.

1. Go to Settings > Admin Options.
2. Select the desired option in the Address Verification section:
   • If you prefer to have your addresses automatically corrected when you verify them, select Automatically Apply Changes. When this setting is on, all addresses will be automatically corrected to the official USPS values. You will not be prompted to verify or edit each address.
   • If you prefer to be prompted to verify each address, select Get Suggestions. When this setting is off, for any address that does not adhere to the official USPS values, you will be able to choose whether to manually edit it or leave it as is.

If Automatically Apply Changes is selected

• If the address is a valid mailing address in the USPS database, you can proceed with creating your shipping label. Minor adjustments, such as capitalization, will be made automatically.
• If the address is not a valid mailing address in the USPS database and cannot be corrected automatically, you will be prompted as shown below.

If Get Suggestions is selected

• If there is a close match in the USPS database, the original address will be shown next to the suggested address. Select the desired option:
  • Use Suggested Address: Use the verified address
  • Use Original: Keep your original unverified address
  • Edit Original: Edit your original address
    
• If there is not a close match in the USPS database, no suggested address will be shown. Select the desired option:
  • Edit Original: Edit your original address
  • Use Original: Keep your original unverified address

• If you need more information about an address, you can look it up on the USPS website.
• When shipping with FedEx or DHL, if the address cannot be verified in PitneyShip, PitneyShip Pro, or PitneyShip Enterprise, you can try verifying the address on the carrier's website.

• Note: The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) does not usually have a traditional street address, which can make it difficult to verify the address. When sending to the IRS, enter "Department of Revenue" in the Company field. In the Address field, enter either "IRS" or "Internal Revenue Service". Enter the appropriate City, State, and ZIP Code in those fields.
