How to set up the mail.dat file in ConnectRight Mailer

USPS mailing report files can be submitted to the USPS electronically using the mailing industry format mail.dat. You must register with the USPS to use this format.

USPS mailing report files can be submitted to the USPS electronically using the mailing industry format mail.dat. You must register with the USPS to use this format.

To set up the mail.dat file in ConnectRight Mailer:
  1. In Windows Explorer, navigate to the C: drive.
  2. Select New Folder, then name the new folder PostalOne.
  3. Open the PostalOne folder.
  4. In the PostalOne folder, select New Folder, then name the new folder Failed.
  5. In the PostalOne folder, select New Folder, then name the new folder Job.
  6. In the PostalOne folder, select New Folder, then name the new folder Rejected.
  7. In the PostalOne folder, select New Folder, then name the new folder Successful.
  8. In the PostalOne folder, select New Folder, then name the new folder Log.
  9. Sign in to the USPS Business Customer Gateway.
Note: If you do not have a username and password for the USPS Business Customer Gateway, create them now.
  1. In the USPS Business Customer Gateway, select Mailing Services.
  2. Locate Electronic Data Exchange (PostalOne!) and select Get Access.
Note: If message pending BSA displays, the username and password you used to sign into the USPS Business Customer Gateway is not designated as the Business Service Administrator (BSA). Contact the BSA. The BSA is typically the person in your organization who set up the USPS Business Customer Gateway account. If you do not know who the BSA is, email the USPS at [email protected], or call (877) 264-9693 option 1 or (800) 522-9085 option 3, option 6. The USPS will ask you to provide the Customer Registration ID (CRID) number.
  1. Select Download Client Application (Windows) and save the download to C:\PostalOne\.
  2. In the PostalOne folder, right-click MDRClient-win32-PROD.zip file and select Extract Here.
  3. Double-click run-mdclient.bat file to launch the PostalOne! client.
  4. Sign in to PostalOne client.
  5. Select Settings.
  6. Select General > Browse, then browse to C:\PostalOne\Log and select Open.
  7. Select your Time Zone.
  8. Select Batch Configuration.
  9. Enter your PostalOne username and password.
  10. For each Batch File Location, select Browse, browse to C:\PostalOne\, and select the appropriate folder for the Batch File location (for example: Jobs Repository = C:\PostalOne\Jobs, Rejected = C:\PostalOne\Rejected).
  11. Select OK.
  12. Select Logout.
  13. In ConnectRight Mailer, select Edit.
  14. Select Preferences.
  15. Select the PostalOne tab.
  16. Select Browse.
  17. Select C:\PostalOne\.
  18. Select OK.
  19. Select Run Immediately.
  20. Select Save.
