number-1 Before you begin

Before you begin installing your new Smart Access Management product, use the below graphic to identify parts of your equipment.

number-2 Open the box and unpack the device

  1. Remove all elements from the box and discard any packing tape or material.
  2. Remove your QL-820NWB label printer and power cord from the box. The USB lead and two pin power cord are not required.
  3. Discard any packaging.

If you are installing a QL-820NWB label printer on its own without a Smart Access Management Desktop solution, please go to Installing the QL-820NWB label printer.

If you are installing a QL-820NWB label printer alongside a new Smart Access Management Desktop product then please follow the instructions below.

number-3 Installing the hardware

  1. Remove the end plates from the base using the supplied tool.

  2. To prevent your base sliding across your desk, apply the felt feet as shown.

  3. Attach the rear of the tablet holder to the base. Use the Allen key to attach the screws and washers as shown.

    1. T20 Pin Torx Allen Key.
    2. M4 x 20 mm Buttonhead screw.
    3. M4 Split Washer.
    4. Case Washer.
  4. Tighten the screws using hand tools. Using electric tools may damage your tablet holder.

number-4 Installing the Tablet

  1. Unlock the tablet lock on the back, using the small circular key.
  2. Prise the cover open from the left hand side to remove it.

  3. Route the right-angled USB cable through the base and tablet holder securing it with the cable clips.

  4. Place the tablet into the tablet holder and plug it into the right-angled USB cable.

  5. Press and hold the tablet power button to turn on the tablet. Wait for the tablet to start up.

  6. Slot the tablet cover in the right hand side and snap back into place.
  7. Lock the tablet.

number-5 Registering the tablet in Smart Access Management

  1. On your computer, sign in to the Smart Access Management website.
  2. Select Settings > Product Registration.
  3. Click Add Product.
  4. Select the location where the tablet will be used from the menu.
  5. Add a name for the tablet in the Display Name field.
  6. Add the serial number of the tablet. These can be located on the rear of the tablet or on the side of the box.

  7. Click Add.

number-6 Setting the language

  1. On the tablet, tap Start.
  2. Tap the desired language.
  3. Tap Next.
  4. Tap the desired country or region, then Restart.

number-7 Agreeing to the privacy policy and connecting to Wi-Fi

  1. Tap I agree to all.
  2. Tap Agree.
  3. Tap OK.
  4. Tap the network you want to connect to.
  5. Enter the Wi-Fi password.
  6. Tap Connect.
  7. Tap Next.
  8. Tap Continue.

number-8 Pairing the tablet app with Smart Access Management

  1. On your computer, sign in to the Smart Access Management website.
  2. Select Settings > Product Registration.
  3. Click the + icon next to your tablet.

  4. A QR code appears on your computer. This code lasts five minutes.
  5. Launch the Kiosk app on the tablet.

  6. Tap Scan QR code to activate the camera.
  7. Tap Allow.
  8. Tap While using the app.
  9. Tap Allow.
  10. Scan the QR code from your computer. Registration Complete appears briefly.
  11. If necessary, review and accept the terms and conditions.

number-9 Installing the QL-820NWB label printer

  1. Connect the power supply and cable to the label printer.
  2. Hold the label printer by the front, and firmly lift the top cover.

  3. Remove the coin cell battery compartment tab.
  4. Place the label roll into the roll spool guide.
    1. Fully insert the roll spool arm into the roll spool guide.
    2. Make sure the stabilizer (1) slides into the notch of the printer.

  5. Thread the label roll through the label printer.

  6. Close the top cover.
  7. Press and hold the power button to turn the printer on. The label roll aligns automatically.

  8. Press OK at the Set Language and clock prompt.
  9. Select your language. Confirm with OK.
  10. Set the date by using the up and down arrows. Confirm with OK.
  11. Set the clock by using the up and down arrows. Confirm with OK.

Turning Template mode off

  1. Press Menu.

  2. Press the up or down arrows until Template Settings appears. Confirm with OK.
  3. Template Mode appears. Press OK.
  4. Use the up or down arrows to select Off. You return to the Home screen.

Configuring Auto power off

  1. Press Menu.
  2. Press the up or down arrows until Settings appears. Confirm with OK.
  3. Press the up or down arrows until Auto Power Off appears. Confirm with OK.
  4. Press the up or down arrows until Adapter appears. Confirm with OK.
  5. Press the up or down arrows until Off appears. Confirm with OK.

Configuring Bluetooth

  1. Press Menu.
  2. Press the up or down arrows until Bluetooth appears. Confirm with OK.
  3. Press the up or down arrows until Automatic Reconnection appears. Confirm with OK.
  4. Press the up or down arrows until On appears. Confirm with OK.

  1. Press Menu.
  2. Press the up or down button to locate the Bluetooth menu.
  3. Press OK.
  4. Press the up or down button to select Bluetooth On/Off, then press OK.
  5. Press the up or down button to select On, then press OK.
  6. Press the back button to return to the Home screen.

number-11 Pairing your QL-820NWB label printer with the Smart Access Management tablet

  1. Tap the i button.

  2. Tap Settings.

  3. Tap Bluetooth.
  4. Tap the QL820NWBxxxx option.
  5. Tap Pair.
  6. Tap the Home button to display the About Kiosk window.

  7. Tap OK. You return to the Home screen.

Number 12 Adding a Visitor Site

  1. You need to sign into the Smart Access Management web portal order to use the system.
  2. Go to the Smart Access Management website.
  3. Enter your email address and password.
  4. Select Sign In.
  5. Settings > Access Sites.
  6. Select the location from the Location menu.
  7. Click Add Visitor Site.
  8. Select a location from the Location / Site field.
  9. Expand the Assign Kiosk Tablets menu.
  10. Select the desired tablet tick box.
  11. Scroll and click Save.

You can now begin to use your Smart Access Management solution to print visitor badges.
